I'm only here temporarily
I see my skullet in a limousine
I've got so much work to do
I'm drowning a cat in a sack
In a barrel behind the tool shed
You would now too if your mother was pestilence
You wouldn't know the first thing about future tense
My daddy says to look at me
That hazel eyes are my currency
But first I'll need to pay my dues
I'm squatting above open mouths
And dissociating on their command
You would now too if your daddy was like the rest
You wouldn't know the first thing about future tense
My hands bleed on the orange leaves
So your can get your PHD
I'll camp behind the irrigation ponds
And bury myself in run-off
When I hear their boots hammer at night
You would now too if you were running from the government
You wouldn't know the first thing about this mess we're in
I'm only here temporarily
I see my skullet in a magazine
I've got so much work to do
I'm drowning a cat in a sack
In a barrel behind the tool shed
You would now too if your mother was pestilence
You wouldn't know the first thing about future tense
Cinematic, meditative, expansive. The entire album has me imagining myself on a hero’s journey. Starting in comfort, finding conflict, facing fears, taking action, finding resolve, experiencing hope… only to find myself in a melancholic wandering in the end.
Great album & synth work. I will definitely enjoy this in my rotation for a while. Nick
The first time I heard this album I was going through the wringer health-wise and exploring lots of new music to help pass the time. While listening I felt both clear-headed and zeroed in but also, somewhat inversely, like I was suspended within some vast, black ethereal plane of existence. MFNT has since become a bit of a personal cult classic. It's a bracing, jarring, fascinating, fever-dream listening experience, and I highly recommend it. FE
